Protein for People in Nanaimo a Huge Success

The Nanaimo Duncan & District Labour Council held a Protein for People event in Nanaimo's Deverill Park on Sunday June 3rd.  Besides consuming over 1000 hotdogs, hundreds of visitors also had juice boxes, fresh apples and oranges and soup.  They were entertained with music, live magic and face painting.

Partnering with local community groups such as the Nanaimo 7-10 Club Society, Pacific Care, The Salvation Army, Nanaimo Foodshare, and Loaves and Fishes patrons were shown services that they can access within their community.

The Protein for People project donates protein to local food banks realizing that Food banks in BC regularly experience shortages of protein-based food and struggle to ensure that vulnerable people get this key nourishment. Important dietary protein is found in such foods as meat, fish, eggs and dairy products.
Many families are struggling to provide the nourishment that is essential for their health, and children make up over 45% of people relying on BC food banks. Protein is important food for brain and muscle development and is an essential part of the nutrition that we all need.
